The build up to the big breakdown

It is so easy to be spiritually invested and entrapped by this Olympic buzz. Please do not get me wrong I am freaking elated to see my people doing big things but I still can’t shake the feeling that this too is an unfortunate ritual.

Black folk everywhere do feel this boost of pride, energy and motivation when they see their people beating all the odds and pushing the limits- and there is nothing would with that. But in the same day you report that Obama’s ratings are higher than Romney?

I feel the elation and joy

but

I sense a set up.

An unshakable feeling that this indeed is the build up to the big break down.

A breakdown on a physical level though, there is something enduring and resilient about the Black spirit therefore spiritual purges & fortification are necessary for the events that lay ahead.

Gabrielle “Gabby” Douglas (Sports)

1. Amaze sauce. I can’t say enough about how Gabby Douglas should be getting roses thrown at her feet and people declaring it Gabby Douglas day and how NBC needs to stick it’s collective face in a wood chipper for not recognizing that she is an amazing athlete and a champion. And at the tender age of 16. I defy anyone to top that for WIN AT LIFE.

2. If you haven’t checked out the 365 days of the Black Hero series, go do so. There’s everything there from Black comic book heroes to Black authors and Black teachers and activists. The art is incredibly done and every time I see it pop up on my dash, I go do a little extra reading to learn more about the character or real life person to see what things I didn’t know about them.

3. GABRIELLE DOUGLAS APPRECIATION LIFE, EVERYONE.
